ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Heather Chadduck Hillegas, named one of Veranda’s Next Legends, is a decorator and textile designer known for her Southern-inspired interiors that blend tradition, comfort, and relaxed elegance. Her love of fine arts, antiques, and textiles began as a student at the Sorbonne in Paris, France and led to a successful botanical-inspired fabric collection sold globally. Before starting her design business, Heather worked as Style Director for multiple magazines, collaborating with top architects and designers on major projects, including the 2019 Southern Living Idea House. Heather’s current work spans the country, drawing on a network of artisans, workrooms, furniture makers, and antique dealers for each project. She is widely published and has been welcomed into the Design Leadership Network. Heather lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband, photographer David Hillegas, and English pointer, Eloise, in a renovated 1920s clapboard colonial featured in House Beautiful. Heather served as the second Designer in Residence at Colonial Williamsburg, where she decorated and lived in the oldest residential dwelling, the Nelson Galt house, circa 1695. Heather is currently designing a rug line and collaborating on a furniture collection set to launch in Spring 2026.
